Dr Sujitha Thavapalachandran is an interventional cardiologist who specialises in coronary angioplasty and stenting. She is also an adult general cardiologist. She currently has public appointment as a consultant cardiologist at Westmead Hospital.  

Dr Thavapalachandran was awarded her Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery from the University of Adelaide in 2008. She completed advanced cardiology training at Westmead Hospital in New South Wales. She was admitted as  a Fellow to the Royal Australasian College of Physicians in 2015.

Dr Thavapalachandran was awarded the degree of Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) by the Faculty of Medicine at The University of Sydney. She undertook her PhD studies in the sub-specialty field of Heart Failure from 2017-2021, investigating new ways of repairing damaged hearts after a heart attack. She has authored 19 international peer-reviewed publications culminating in international recognition and awards (including the Ralph Reader Prize for Basic Science 2018 – one of the most prestigious awards in cardiovascular research in Australasia).

She returned to Australia following the completion of her Clinical Coronary Interventional Fellowship at the Peter Munk Cardiac Care Centre at Toronto General Hospital, Toronto, Canada (2020-2021) where she worked with the renowned world leading experts in the field.

She is a current Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians (FRACP) and Cardiac Society of Australia and New Zealand (FCSANZ).
